Resid HydroCracking
With changes in crude prices and the increased global production of heavy crude oil, refineries need to look toward other processes and technology to boost their global competitiveness. Residue HydroCracking (RHC) is one solution. Resid Hydrocracking processes heavier feeds to maximize diesel production. This process also has the flexibility to use non-standard feeds, such as Heavy Coker Gas Oil (HCGO) and DeAsphalted Oil (DAO).
Due to the continual supply of fresh catalyst, the Residuum HydroCracking Unit (RHU) produces a constant yield of high-quality products. Middle distillates can be blended into jet fuel and diesel fuel. Other benefits include significantly increased liquid yields; high volume of kerosene and light gasoil; a wide range of other products and a low sulfur content.

Operations Specialist :-
Job Purpose:
Direct routine, abnormal and emergency condition operations of the process units as advised by the Superintendent in order to achieve throughput and product slate and yields as per operating plan while maintaining the integrity of the assets under his control, in a manner consistent with safe and best operating practices and with strict adherence to company standards, guidelines & procedures. Provide a high degree of skill, experience and engineering knowledge to devise and implement processing strategies, measures and operating parameters to optimize and sustain product yields and unit profitability.
Candidate Qualifications
Key Strengths and Abilities
Candidates for the role of Operations Specialist should have:
- B.Sc. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with minimum of 8 years practical and administrative experience in Refinery process units. Other combinations of education & experience are acceptable. At least 2 years as Shift Supervisor or Senior Engineer in TSD and last (minimum) 2 years in Oil Processing Department (OPD) or equivalent.
- Must have a detailed knowledge of the units under his control, their inter-relation with other units and facilities. Requires a good knowledge of Refinery and Company operations.
- Must be a clear thinker with considerable administrative and organisational skill. Must be self- motivated, exercise initiative and have strong leadership qualities.
- Act as relief and assume full scope & responsibility of the Superintendent during his absence including all administrative functions. Must assume full responsibility for any unit or the complete section at any time without further reference. Jobholder will be "on-call" on a 24-hour basis to respond to operational conditions / emergencies.

Shift Supervisor - North Process :-
Responsibilities:
- Instructs and guides unit crews for achieving target throughput following best operating practices & procedures.
- Makes detailed inspection of all units to ensure operating instructions and procedures are correctly & conscientiously complied with, equipments are correctly operated & maintained in a safe & efficient manner and a good standard of housekeeping is enforced in the units.
- Initiates actions to improve yields and/or to check & rectify off specification results. Monitors consumption of chemicals, catalysts, lubricants and consumables used to ensure economic usage.
- Checks and updates status of all maintenance work in progress within the section to ensure maximum availability of critical as well as standby equipments. Produces and issues Unavailable Equipment List on a weekly basis and forwards this to section Operations Specialist.
- Approves Hot Work Permits after consulting senior staff and issues work permits for critical jobs (crane permits, confined space permits and special hazard permits). Ensures compliance with company's Permit to Work system, safe work practises, guidelines & standards.
- Exercises personal control to make decisions and take immediate action to alleviate / mitigate emergencies, abnormal or critical conditions with no prior approval (including unit shutdown) in order to safeguard the integrity of equipment and personnel & minimize impact of such situations.
- Checks and reports on the training of personnel, prepares appraisals and conducts tests to monitor progress and ensure competent unit manpower.
- Administrates personnel related activities (vacation, sickness, time keeping) for all staff directly assigned.
- Carries out emergency checks and conducts safety talks to increase safety awareness of unit crew and establish highest safety standards. Routinely evaluates assigned staff's knowledge and adherence to safe work practices, guidelines & standards and updates Emergency Checks file on a monthly basis to ensure emergency preparedness of the unit.
Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the role of Shift Supervisor - North Process should have:
• Minimum 8 years of experience in process operations, including at least 5 years experience on relevant units within the section. Ideally the jobholder will be educated to G.C.S.E. "A" Level or HND in technical subject (preferably Chemical Engineering) however various combinations of education & experience are acceptable.
- Must be able to oversee and operate the section as an entity and take appropriate action in emergency situations. Must have detailed knowledge of all Process and Utility systems in the section and all Refinery inter connecting systems.
- Must have a good working knowledge of DCS (Distributed Control System) I Analogue Control system, Advanced Control equipment, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of Company standards and practices relating to Fire, Health, Safety & Environment, PSM, Quality, Personnel and Training.
- The position holder must be well organized and have good leadership and decision making skills.
- The job holder must also be a clear thinker who can remain level headed and capable of responding to emergency/potentially life threatening situations on a 24-hour basis.
